Make Up

Make up routine – step 4 – POWDER …

I’m trying to break up the ‘filling in of CW forms’ so I thought I’d do a little post or two tonight …

Powder. Up until a year or so ago, I didn’t really use powder at all. Since I’ve sorted out my really oily skin, it isn’t really necessary to powder my face everyday for mattifying purposes – instead I’ve found a gorgeous product that just adds a lovely light glow to the skin. If you do have really oily skin and your face goes shiny (usually in the t-zone) then you might need a powder every day, and probably a matte powder. If you have dry skin, I’d go for the ‘glowing’ powder – you don’t need to matte anything!

The purpose of powder is to ‘set’ foundation really, and if the powder is a matte one – to take off the shine. I sometimes carry a powder around when I need to touch-up during the day if my chin goes shiny. If I’ve applied concealer to my nose/chin, then I’d dust some powder over the top of the heavily concealed areas to set them. I use quite a large, fluffy, tapered brush. Dip/put brush into the powder – tap brush to shake off excess and dust lightly over skin/area for powdering.

Here are the powders I use (sorry the picture quality is rubbish!):

Rimmel Stay Matte Powder £3.99 Shade: 003 Peach Glow – Really nice, cheap, amazing value powder. It dusts on lightly, naturally and doesn’t look cakey. Perfect for those oily/shiny t-zones and around the nose. Love this powder. Packaging is a bit rubbish though and the plastic lid easily cracks – not great for travelling. Amazing for the price. Avaliable in many shades – careful not to pick on too light as it’ll look ‘dusty’ – http://www.boots.com/en/Rimmel-Stay-Matte-Pressed-Powder_1015573/

Charlotte Tilbury Air Brush Flawless Finish powder – £33.00 – Shade: Fair 1 – A pricey, but excellent quality powder. This contains extremely fine micro particles of powder that vanish on to the skin. They mattify but they do still give the glowy look to the skin – kind of blurring imperfections. It is expensive, but if you want a powder that does everything, then this is the one. It’ll last you forever (I’ve had mine about 6 months and have hardly dented it). Plus – the packaging is stunning and the compact is perfect for touch-ups as it looks so gorgeous! Available in 3 shades. http://www.charlottetilbury.com/uk/airbrush-flawless-finish-1-fair.html

Bourjois Java Rice Loose Powder – £9.99. This is my newest discovery and it is FAB! This powder isn’t about mattifying at all, but about the glow instead. The powder is very fine shimmer (no big glitter particles though thankfully) that, when dusted lightly on to skin (forehead, cheeks, centre of the nose) looks beautiful; to use a blogger phrase-‘lit from within'(!). For the price, this powder is incredible. It is very similar to the much-talked-about Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder which is nearly 4 times the price! http://uk.spacenk.com/ambient-lighting-powder/MUS300023943.html). I really recommend this Java powder- but they do not stock it at Boots on the IOW – so you can purchase at Boots online or on feelunique. com http://www.boots.com/en/Bourjois-Poudre-De-Riz-De-Java_1376978/

Other powders I’ve used and love:

Bourjois Healthy Balance Powder – £8.99. Like the Healthy Mix Foundations that I love, this is from the same range. A lovely, light, natural powder – good value all-rounder. I own it, but I can’t find it annoyingly! http://www.boots.com/en/Bourjois-Healthy-Balance-Compact-Powder_1244985/

Soap and Glory One Heck of a Blot £12.00 – Another blogger favourite. I used this when it first came out and really like it – I smashed it when I dropped it though 😦 . Aimed at mattifying shiny skin. http://www.boots.com/en/Soap-Glory%C2%99-One-Heck-Of-A-Blot-9g_1610922/

Clinique Redness Solutions Pressed Powder – £25.50 – This is one I purchased for my Mother dearest! She has very red cheeks (suffers with Rosacea) and she loves it! Well worth the price. Yellow coloured, finely milled powder to counteract the colour. Worth if if you’re a sufferer. http://www.boots.com/en/Clinique-Redness-Solutions-Pressed-Powder_1129417/
